Choosing the right cricket mat is fairly straightforward, so one quick call to us will point you in the right direction. if cricket mat is to be permanent cricket surface you require outdoor cricket matting and if the cricket mat is to be taken up you need indoor/roll down cricket matting.
Outdoor permanent cricket carpet is made up two layers; a shock pad underlay to control pace and bounce and then a main play surface on top. The outdoor cricket mats are 2.74m (9') wide and are available in any length.
Indoor matting can also be used outdoor, it requires less or no ground preparation and can laid on top of any hard or compact surface; the performance will no match a fully prepared permanent pitch, however the ease of the roll down solution makes it very popular for home cricket. The roll down matting is 2m (6.5') wide and available in any length, this mat is a one piece needle punch mat with a PVC backing.
Cricket Mat Types
Permanent Cricket Mat - This matting would be used on outdoor cricket practise nets. It would laid on a aggregate or concrete base. Used by county cricket teams, schools, local cricket clubs and lucky people with batting nets in their garden!
Roll Down Cricket Mat - This mat is typically used in sports halls and gyms in conjunction with indoor cricket nets. The matting PVC backing provides tacky adhesion between polished floors and play surface, whilst also controlling ball pace and bounce. These mats can also be used outside as an easy a quick solution for a no maintenance home cricket playing surface.
Cricket Mat Lengths
How long should my cricket mat be? - We can supply the matting in any length you require, up to 30m (96'), but we do have suggested lengths depended on what cricket net setup the cricket mat will be used:
30m - Full length mat, covering bowlers run up right through to the batting crease
22m - Pitch length mat, covering bowling crease up through to the batting crease
11m - Half pitch length mat, covering ball pitch area and batting crease
9m - Just enough, economical option which covers the bare minimum
Cricket Mat Quality
Is this matting good, how can I compare it? - Yes, our cricket matting is very good - it is the best. The matting is not cheap, however once spread out over the long life time and the high level of use the matting will get it's affordable improves greatly. There is a very simple method of assessing the quality of a cricket mat, and this by obtaining the weight of it; the heavier it is the more substantial the construction. If you find cheaper matting it will be lighter! In most instances the cricket mat will form part of practise net system which will see much use and be expected to last many years and you don't want the matting to let you down, and ours won't.
Cricket Mat Installation
How do I install cricket matting? - if you have the base surface it's very simply, you just roll it out and as networld cricket matting is high quality it will be free of ripples and bobbles.
Outdoor cricket matting is laid on a aggregate or concrete base. An aggregate base is made up of two 50mm layers of compacted hardcore, topped with granno chippings and then bonded with an bonding agent. A concrete base comprises of 6" hardcore & 4" concrete. Concrete bases are very straightforward, most clubs have ground contractors and builders who comfortable undertake a job like this.
Indoor cricket mats are rolled out directly onto polished sports hall floors. The mats PVC backing provides a non slide contact. Cricket mat trolleys are supplied when matting is used in multi sport areas. These cricket mats are very flexible as they can be used outside on concrete, tarmac, compacted crushed stone and firm ground. Performance does suffer somewhat when used on grass, however they still very much usable and are ideal for converting unplayable grass in the garden to a good practise wicket. Very popular with home market.
